The board have no way back if they do sell Rice.

I don't want him to go, as he means a lot for the club, but he isnt irreplaceable.

Anyone spot a common theme with all these players Chelsea are trying to bomb out?

This hit squad, are they all colour blind?

Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
Rudiger or Tomori at CB definitely both would improve us

Barkley would improve us but if Rice goes we need another CDM not a CAM sort of player. Would like him though and he'd be wanting to get in Eng euros squad

The rest are either shite or unrealistic, i dont think Hudson-Odoi or Abraham would be available or what we need over say a CB, LB or CDM

Emerson the LB id look at, better than Arthur and Cress as a LB

The West Ham way :

Abramovich falls out with Putin, who sends a hit squad to Stratford. They mistake RA for Antonio, who gets a dose of polonium, shares that with the rest of the team. West Ham get relegated.

"Having a mate at another club is a nice bonus"

Which is what people are making it out to be on here, a nice bonus to go with all the other things like higher wages, medals and other stuff that is WAY better than what he's currently got here.

Block I think it's when and how not if.

I would prefer that WHEN to be under new owners at the start of a Window not the very end and for it to be for Cash that can ploughed back into depth of squad.

Spot on.

He wont be hated for it because as you say he wont make waves publicly, wont go on strike and will give his best in C&B right up until his final minute.

You are deluded mate.

He was at Chelsea from when he was 8 or 9 years of age. He supports them. His best mate plays for them. He was even at Terry's villa in the summer. Mark my words, he has already given the, the green light and agreed to join them. Personal terms would already be agreed. The issue is the fee.

He walked away from Ireland under much more difficult circumstances and he had no problem doing that. All just to better his potential earnings.

He will quadruple his wages at Chelsea and play in the Champions League and have the opportunity to win trophies.

As long as the two clubs reach an agreement then why on earth would he stay? - because he loves the club, because he will be the next Captain. Do me a favour, His mind is already made up. And good luck to him.

Not a chance he would stay, not in a million years.

The difference is, he will keep his head down and not cause a fuss. But he will still be desparate to go. Don't be fooled otherwise.

I think too much is made of him being friends with Mount. It's not like they are 8.

He's friends with Fredericks too.

I think he'll leave over the next couple of seasons, but hopefully not to Chelsea.

Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
I think the Mason Mount link is overrated, yes, they are mates and they may socialise a lot, but football is a business.
What if Rice goes to Chelsea and Chelsea then sell Mount to Arsenal or Wolves in January ?

Having a mate at another club is a nice bonus, but surely can never be a clincher because players change clubs.
I doubt Mason Mount will play at Chelsea for his entire career.

Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
Block,

We can never be sure if best friend of Mason Mount, Chelsea supporting Declan would want to join Chelsea can we.

The fact he could get in the England squad whilst playing for us has kept in from eyeing a move so far but how long before he starts eyeing up medal and trophy potential.

Best we can hope for is playing football that he likes being part of so his interest turns to insistence and his stock continues to rise.

Loans and cash are murky business but the ability to use any cash now is almost impossible so that is why it is being mooted I guess?

Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
Let's be frank, we are only going to be offered players that are either not good enough for Chelsea or injury prone.

We aren't going to be able to just take our pick of Kante and Abrahams etc. It just won't happen.

Bakayoko - can't adjust to the pace of the league.

Rudgier - has suffered injuries and is not the same player as he was

Barkley - not a defensive midfielder. We already have Fornals, Soucek and Lanzini. We don't need him and I don't think he is brilliant anyway. Plus he earns £150k per week.

Tomori (loan) - is not consistent enoigh, hence why he isn't in the Chelsea team. Moyes has always said he wants only experienced defenders. So this rules out Tomori.

Loftus Cheek (loan) - another injury prone player. See Wilshire.

Hudson Odou (loan) - We don't need wingers.

Abrahams (loan) - he won't be available. He is back up to Werner.

Emerson - I think he is decent enough, but not brilliant.

Personally, I wouldn't go with player swaps. I did think this would be a good idea before, but we fuck ourselves over time and time again with injury prone players.
The only player I'd want is Billy Gilmour, And he wouldn't be available to take permanently.

So I'd say £80m, not a penny less or do one.

Lee Trundle 4:04 Mon Sep 28
Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
I'm not saying Declan is a smashing lad, and wouldn't run through brick walls for us, but I don't think he'll turn the opportunity down to play for a team he supports, who could be title challengers, who regularly play in the Champions League. Oh yeah, and his BESTIE plays for them as well.

Block 3:56 Mon Sep 28
Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
I don't think Declan wants the move, particularly back to the club who deemed him not good enough when he was younger.

It's rare that player are loyal, but we brought him on and made him the player he is now, I doubt he'd want to leave.

Alwaysaniron 3:54 Mon Sep 28
Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
I think he'll stay for another season too if I'm honest. I also think he'll have a blinder and that Man City or even one of the super European clubs will come in for him at stupid money. (At least that way the Chavs won't get him back). Covid will be old hat then too and we'll take £100m off of one of them.

Arko 3:54 Mon Sep 28
Re: Chelsea players in exchange for Rice
Honestly, I wouldn't want any player Chelsea are prepared to let go to us for two reasons:

1) Any player exchange will increase the chances of a deal for Rice happening. We don't want that. Knowing our negotiation skills Chelsea will overvalue their player(s) in the deal and undervalue Rice. So it'll player exchange and 20m. Thanks, but no thanks.

2) The players that Chelsea are likely to offer will be on high wages and not exactly keen to join us as it represents a climbdown going from a player being on the fringes of Chelsea to having to play for a basket case of a club like ours.

So, in a nutshell, don't sell Rice now. If you have to sell, which I'm not sure we do, then the price is 80m, take it or leave it.
